Katrina Kaif seeks Lord Ganesha's blessings

The magnificent Ganpati at Khetwadi’s 12th Lane Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal had a lovely and distinguished visitor in Bollywood beauty Katrina Kaif on Wednesday evening.

Head covered and bowed in respect, hands joined in supplication, and then down on her knees with her forehead touching the idol’s feet, the actress paid her respects to Lord Ganesh with a simplicity and earnestness born of long practice at the Siddhivinayak Temple in Prabhadevi.

Is she a Ganesh bhakt? Isn’t everybody who is a Mumbaikar? The actress said she had a lot to be grateful to Mumbai for. And, she believed Lord Ganesh was the presiding deity of Mumbai, everybody worshipped Ganpati... she felt a strong connect to the God, that is why she frequently visited Siddhivinayak.

“Being a part of the puja here is a small gesture on my part to express my gratitude,” said Katrina as devotees gaped in astonishment at her faith and then made a mad scramble to shoot pictures of her on their cell phones.

Incidentally, the Khetwadi 12th Lane Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal is part of the 14 mandals shortlisted out of 534 that are participating in the Times of India Utsav Moorti Sanman — an annual contest for four major prizes: the Best Ganpati Mandal, Best Ganpati Idol, Most Visited Ganpati Mandal and Most Eco-friendly Ganpati Idol. Theatre and film director Feroze Khan visited the Fort Vibhag Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, singer Suresh Wadkar the GSB Seva Mandal in King’s Circle and MP Milind Deora the Akil Anjeerwadi Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Mazagaon as part of the Times of India Utsav Moorti Sanman on Wednesday.
