Making film on India a little complicated: French director Remi Bezancon

By Dibyojyoti Baksi, Mumbai, Dec 6 : French director Remi Bezancon enjoys watching Bollywood films but says he doesn't have any immediate plans to make India-based movie
.

'I need to start off with something I have personal experience of, so I can't make a film like Danny Boyle's 'Slumdog Millionaire'. Making a film in or on India
is little complicated unless it's on a French person who has come to India,' Bezanon, 38, told IANS.

He's here to attend the five-day French Film Festival and his second directorial venture 'The First Day of the Rest of Your Life' was screened at the fest that concludes Sunday.

The young director released his first feature film 'Ma vie en l'air' in 2005 but it was 'The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life' (2008) that hit the jackpot and catapulted him into the big league. Made at a budget of about USD 8.6, the film was nominated for nine Cesar Awards in 2008 and bagged eight trophies.

The director was inspired by his own life to make 'The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life', about a family of five members and each member's interpretation of a special day.

'I was inspired by my own life when I made this film. I belong to a family same as shown in the film. The film is like my own family. I have drawn myself out and given a bit of myself to each of the characters. But it's not about the family but the passage of time and how every member has an independent interpretation of it. I write my own script,' he said.

But he clarifies that he isn't taking a nostalgia trip with the movie.

'No I am not nostalgic about the past. My philosophy is simple - one should live in the present. There is no point dwelling in the past. Indians have a very beautiful way of looking at time.'

Asked if he has seen Indian movies, Bezanon said: 'I have seen quite a few Bollywood films. My editor is a big Bollywood fan and she has shown me clippings from hundreds of films, I don't remember the names though.'
